Our Ethos

Wood Is Not a
Compromise.

For too long, timber in the Middle East was treated as a decorative afterthought — a material that couldn't be trusted to perform. LIGNA exists to end that narrative, permanently.

Built from
Frustration.

LIGNA was born out of a conversation between an architect and a timber engineer on a sweltering Dubai rooftop in 2019. The project below them had just failed its six-month inspection — a premium hardwood deck, buckled and silvered beyond recovery, installed by a supplier who had simply imported a European product and hoped for the best.

That conversation became a conviction: the Middle East deserved timber that was engineered specifically for its climate. Not adapted. Not approximated. Engineered — from species selection through to the molecular structure of the wood itself.

We spent two years in research and development before we sold our first board. We partnered with thermal modification facilities in Europe, ran accelerated weathering tests in Sharjah's industrial zone, and rebuilt our installation methodology from first principles. We did not launch until we were certain.

Today, LIGNA supplies some of the most demanding architectural practices in the GCC — and every product we make is still held to the same standard we set on that rooftop.

"The region's climate is not an obstacle to great timber architecture.
It is the brief."

— Founding Principle, LIGNA

Four Principles.
No Exceptions.

I

Scientific Rigour

Every specification decision we make is grounded in materials science. We do not guess. We test, measure, and verify — and we share the data with every architect and engineer who asks for it.

II

Genuine Sustainability

FSC certification is the floor, not the ceiling. We trace every cubic metre of timber from forest to facade, publish our EPD data, and refuse to source from any supplier who cannot provide full chain-of-custody documentation.

III

Design Partnership

We are not a product supplier. We are a design partner. Our technical team sits in architects' offices, reviews drawings, and solves problems before they reach site. We only succeed when the building succeeds.

IV

Uncompromised Quality

We manufacture in the UAE and control every step of the process. There are no grey-market intermediaries, no batch inconsistencies, no excuses. What we promise in the data sheet is what arrives on site.

From Forest to
Facade.

01
FSC Forest Sourcing

Responsible Sourcing

All timber is selected from FSC-certified forests in West Africa and Northern Europe. Every log is traceable to its source forest, harvest date, and certification body. We audit our supply chain annually — and we publish the results.

02
Thermal Modification

Thermal Modification

Raw timber is thermally modified at 185–215°C in a controlled steam environment. This process restructures the wood's cellular composition — eliminating the sugars that feed decay, locking moisture content, and achieving near-zero dimensional movement. No chemicals. No biocides. Heat and steam only.

03
UAE Precision Milling

Precision Milling

Modified timber is shipped to our UAE facility where it is precision-milled to final profile dimensions on CNC equipment calibrated to ±0.2mm tolerance. Each board is graded visually and mechanically before progressing to finishing.

04
Factory Finishing

Factory Finishing

Every board leaves our facility in its specified finish — factory-applied in controlled conditions for total consistency. Site-applied finishing is a source of variation we have designed out of our process entirely.

05
Delivered to Site

Site-Ready Delivery

Boards are bundled, labelled by zone, and delivered directly to site on a schedule coordinated with your installation contractor. Our technical team is available on-call during installation for any specification queries.

Carbon Negative
by Design.

Timber is the only structural material that removes carbon from the atmosphere as it grows. Every cubic metre of LIGNA timber installed in a building locks approximately 0.9 tonnes of CO₂ for the lifetime of the structure.

Our thermal modification process adds a small carbon cost — approximately 40kg CO₂ per m³ — but our Environmental Product Declaration confirms that the net lifecycle carbon balance of every LIGNA product remains firmly negative. We build with the atmosphere, not against it.

We are working toward full Scope 3 carbon disclosure by 2027, and we are committed to achieving net-zero manufacturing emissions by 2030 — a decade ahead of most regional manufacturers.
